vector art for work & home
I have been using Adobe Illustrator for illustration purposes since 2012. At the time I was a graphic designer for Texas A&M University's Department of Performance Studies. I did not have a budget for stock art. I was running into the problem of needing images for posters and other promotional materials and could not find what I needed under Creative Commons licensure. I approached my boss about learning illustrator in order to augment my designs; he supported my idea and I have been illustrating ever since.
I have found that I greatly enjoy making vector art, and spend my personal time making pieces for my own enjoyment as well as for my employers. I also have found that the ability to make my own vector art makes my other graphic work better. If I need a specific shape to use as a frame, I can draw that up in Illustrator and drop it into InDesign. If I need to put together an ad I can make a custom background or custom elements that I can bring into Photoshop to add texture and painting elements.
While I can make vector art using a trackpad or mouse, I prefer to use one of my drawing tablets when working on a more complicated piece.
